Any other middle school parents out there?

I am new to this site and am looking for others to talk with.  I want to know what you are doing for rewards.  Are they working?  I am playing catch up in that I was waaaay too lenient on them when they were younger and am paying for it now.  Any help you can offer would be great.

Actually I am in a similar boat. I have a 12 year old and a 10 year old. So far my rewards are  10 points- 1 hour on video games,  15 points- $5, 30 points- a new book from store, 100 points- a new video game from store.  I also haven't been strict/consistent enough in past and am paying for it. I am also going to ask my kids what they want to work for, then assign a point value., But since I just joined I don't know how well this will work- but its better than the screaming I have been doing.  In order to play video games at all they will need to earn them- otherwise they get sucked in and NOTHING gets done, I am considering getting some poker chips and assigning them to the 5 point category- each would be worth 20 minutes of game time. That way if my son goes over his timer he can buy a chip- or if he needs a quicker reward and immediate gratification he can get it,  Also thinking of adding a REDBOX rental to the prze list- but not sure how many points yet.

I am new to this system also, with three middle school daughters using it to start off with. If it seems to work, I will add my two younger sons. So far, the girls seem to enjoy it - but they have had chores all their lives. They like the idea of rewards for chore completion, which we ARE new to. I made up my own rewards like a manicure or pedicure, extra tv time, extra computer time, getting to help make dinner one night with me (which means getting out of dishes and still getting their points for them). Money is tight right now, so we had to come up with other options instead of money out of pocket for rewards. Still searching to find other rewards to add to the list for more options. We homeschool, so our kids HAVE to help out, there is just too much to do all by myself! Have you found that the system seems to be working for you?
